Renewal and updating of curricula for the formation of professionals is a fundamental task of the universities. The advent of 21 st century and the scientific-technical development reached in the previous century demand a thorough analysis. The objective of the present paper was to assess the importance of bioethics as a discipline in the formation of these professionals, on the basis of accrued experience resulting from the changes occured and the new approaches applied in the development of biomedical sciences, the pharmacological revolution of the last decades and on the concerns expressed by international bodies responsible for man´s health and his welfare.
