RIVERON GONZALEZ, José Manuel; PERIS CID, Alina; FERNANDEZ FAJARDO, Luis and LOPEZ BAEZ, Braulio. Reinfarto cardiaco. Rev cubana med [online]. 1996, vol.35, n.1, pp.30-36. ISSN 0034-7523.
A group of 88 patients discharged from the intensive care unit of "General Calixto García" Clinical and Surgical Hospital, and having the diagnosis of myocardial re-infarction were studied during 1986-1990. Their epidemiologic, clinical, and therapeutic characteristics were analyzed. The maximum incidence of re-infarctions occurred between 50 and 79 years of age, with an average age of 65 years; male and white patients being the most affected (80,78 %). The most frequent coronary risk factor was smoking (71.59 %). Most of the patients presented with more than one associated factor. The most frequent location was posteroinferior (40 %) and the most frequent complication was extrasystolic arrhythmia (90 %). 35.23 % of patients were receiving no treatment. An inadequate dosis of betablockers and aspirin was employed to prevent relapse.
