Abstract

RODRIGUEZ VAZQUEZ, Juan Carlos et al. Furosemida y asma bronquial. Rev cubana med [online]. 1996, vol.35, n.1, pp.44-48. ISSN 0034-7523.

During the last years, inhaled furosemide has being used in the treatment of bronchial asthma. With the rim on contributing to the search of new arguments for its use, we made a review of this theme and of the mechanisms to wich a beneficial effect have been attributed in this entity. One of the most studied theories is the one which refers to the effect that furosemide has in the transportation of chloro, potasium and sodium ions which decreases the hyperosmolarity of bronchial secretions and the bronchial hyperactivity. Other theories have pointed aut an anti-inflamatory action at the level of the airways. Also, a bronchodilatador effect has been attributed to furosemide used in greater doses. More recently a suppresor effect of cough has also been evidenced. This drug has proven to be efficient in children presenting with bronchopulmonary dysplasias, i.e. this drug enhances the pulmonary function without a significant diuretic effect.

Keywords : FUROSEMIDE [pharmacokinetics]; ASTHMA [drug therapy].
