GONZALEZ ZALDIVAR, Arnaldo; PEREZ NELLAR, Jesús  and  LLORENS FIGUEROA, José A.. Enfermedades autoinmunes asociadas a la miastenia gravis en 217 pacientes timectomizados. Rev cubana med [online]. 1997, vol.36, n.3, pp.161-166. ISSN 0034-7523.

With the aim of studying autoimmune diseases associated with myasthenia gravis, a retrospective investigation was carried out in 217 thymectomized patients. From the overall number of patients studied, 16 (7.4 %) presented with other associated autoimmune disease, 14 had a disease involving specific organs, and 2 presented with a multisystemic disease. In this group of patients, the most frequent autoimmune condition were the disorders of the thyroid gland, mainly hyperthyroidism. The associated autoimmune diseases were: hyperthyroidism (7 cases), isolated thyroid opthalmopathy (2 cases), hypothyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis, sclerodermia, diabetes mellitus type I, idyopathic ulcerative colitis, pernicious anemia, and vitiligo (1 case for each of the diseases). The occurrence of other autoimmune diseases in cases with thymoma was lower than that of the patients without thymoma.
