Abstract
NARANJO HERNANDEZ, Daisy; GARCIA FREYRE, Irma and COMPANIONI ACOSTA, Susana. Biorretroalimentación como método terapéutico: Informe preliminar. Rev cubana med [online]. 1999, vol.38, n.1, pp.7-12. ISSN 0034-7523.
15 patients with anorectal incontinence produced by different causes were studied by the biofeedback technique. 13 of them had previously undergone anorectal manometry. Electronic instrumentation was not necessary. The patients carried out a daily operative conditioning at home that was reinforced at the physician´s office every month. 33.5 % of the patients healed completely in a time = 5.4 months, 53.3 % got better in a time = 7.2 months, and 13.3 % did not respond to the treatment after a time = 10.5 months. The method allowed healing and/or significant improvement in 89.9 % of the patients, which was proved by the fast decrease of weekly episodes of incontinence of more than 60 %. The anorectal manometry did not have an important prognostic value in our study.
