Abstract
SABINA MOLINA, Domingo; GARCIA VALDES, Francisco; ASCONEGUI MOYA, Álvaro and MARTINEZ LOPEZ, Orelvis. Características clínicas y morfológicas de la hepatitis C en donantes. Rev cubana med [online]. 2002, vol.41, n.2, pp. 66-73. ISSN 1561-302X.
60 blood donors with anti-hepatitis C virus antibodies were studied in order to identify the clinical expression of the disease caused by HCV in donors, to know the laparoscopic and histologic results and to evaluate the concordance between the endoscopic vision and the histological reports of the liver in those cases that underwent biopsies. It was observed that HCV infection in donors developed silently; however, 62 % of them had histological liver alterations, which were probably related to this viral agent. The analysis of sensitivity and specificity, as welll as the positive and negative predictive value applied to laparoscopy, showed the limitations of this test for the diagnosis of chronic hepatitis that should be histologically confirmed.
