Abstract
BLANCO ANESTO, Jorge; VAZQUEZ VIGOA, Alfredo; BAZAN MILAN, Manuel and MATILDE SOCARRAS, María. Disfunción diastólica asintomática en pacientes diabéticos tipo 2. Rev cubana med [online]. 2003, vol.42, n.1, pp. 64-71. ISSN 1561-302X.
A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in a group of 38 type 2 diabetic patients to determine the frequency of diastolic asymptomatic dysfunction and to evaluate its possible association with other variables. All of them underwent electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, ergometric test, bidimensional echocardiogram and pulsed doppler. A blood sample was taken for the indicators of metabolic control. The distribution of frequency in the categoric variables was analyzed. Chi square test was used to know the possible association among these variables, with a level of statistical significance of p < 0.05. A high frequency of diastolic asymptomatic dysfunction (78.9 %) was found. It was observed a predominance of the echocardiographic pattern of abnormal relaxation. The variables showing statistically significant association were the time of evolution of the disease and the fasting glycaemia values. As the diastolic asymptomatic dysfunction is common in type 2 diabetic patients, it should be searched by means of the pulsed doppler echocardiography. Emphasis was made on the importance of the metabolic control to prevent it.
