Abstract

GONZALEZ FERNANDEZ, Javier; PROHIAS MARTINEZ, Juan; ANELLO UTRERA, Hilda  and  RODRIGUEZ DE ARMAS, Lissette. Tei's index, a new doppler indicator for the study of heart failure. Rev cubana med [online]. 2004, vol.43, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-302X.

Most of the patients with heart failure present combined systolic and diastolic affectation, an index derived from doppler known as Tei's index that allow to evaluate both alterations in a non-invasive way. 25 patients aged 55 ± 16 as an average that suffered from heart failure were studied. The obtained data were compared with those of a sound group. It was observed an increase of Tei's index among patients with heart failure. It was found a statistically significant relation between the Tei's index, the left ventricular ejection fraction and the deacceleration time of peak E in the doppler's mitral flow chart. The results of the follow-up of patients in a period from 3 to 6 months were shown. It was concluded that those with an elevated Tei's index have an unfavorable evolution at 6 months.

Keywords : Heart failure; Tei's index; diastolic function; systolic function; myocardial function index.
