Abstract

ALVAREZ ALIAGA, Alexis; RODRIGUEZ BLANCO, Liuska  and  CHACON PARADA, Tania. Risk factors of hypertensive myocardiopathy. Rev cubana med [online]. 2007, vol.46, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-302X.

A case-control study was conducted in patients with arterial hypertension to identify and quantify the risk factors of hypertensive cardiopathy of patients seen at the arterial hypertension office in the Polylcinic of Specialties from January 1 to December 31, 2005. 100 cases and 200 controls were analyzed at random, 1:2. The male sex four-folded the risk of heart damage (OR 4.45; IC 1.98-10.12; p 0.000), whereas the age over 65 increased it almost 12 times (OR 11,87; IC 4,91- 29,33; p 0,000), and smoking four- folded the risk of myocardial injury (OR 4,89; IC 1,99-12,97; p 0,000). Of the premorbid factors, hypercholesterolemia occupied the first place and seven-folded the risk (OR 7,21; IC 3,05-17,30; p 0,000), followed by sedentarism (OR 6,69; IC 2,79-16,26; p 0,000). The lack of control of the arterial pressure doubled the risk of organ injury (OR 2,30; IC 1,07-4,99; p 0,000). The time of evolution of AHT was directly proportional to the appearance of hypertensive cardiopathy. Having less than 10 years with hypertension was not a risk factor (OR 0,18; IC 0,06-0,53; p 0,000). The sick between 31 and 40 years of evolution four-folded the possibility (OR 4,10; IC 1,75-9,72; p 0.000). Of all the factors analyzed, only alcoholism was not a risk factor.
