Abstract

PEREZ RODRIGUEZ, Alexis et al. Cardiovascular disease in patients with renal transplantation. Rev cubana med [online]. 2014, vol.53, n.1, pp. 37-49. ISSN 0034-7523.

Introduction: cardiovascular disease is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with renal transplantation. Objective: to determine the frequency of heart disease in patients with renal transplantation and its association with various risk factors. Methods: a descriptive, cross-sectional study was performed in 63 patients with transplants at Institute of Nephrology. The were followed up in consultation from January to December 2011. Results: out of 63 patients studied, 48 had cardiovascular disease (76.2%). hypertensive heart disease and diastolic dysfunction were more frequent. Most frequently risk factors were hypertension, hyperlipidemia and smoking although none was statistically significant in their association. The frequency of cardiovascular disease increased with age and this was statistically significant, similarly, the transplant and hemodialysis times were associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) with values of p = 0.00 and p = 0.05, respectively. Conclusions: glomerular and hypertension were the main causes of chronic renal failure. There was high incidence of cardiovascular disease, which increases with age. The functioning renal transplant time is associated with the presence of cardiovascular disease as well as the hemodialysis time before transplantation.

Keywords : renal transplantation; cardiovascular disease in renal transplantation.
