Abstract
PINEIRO LAMAS, Regino et al. Biopsia aspirativa con aguja fina del tiroides. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 1996, vol.68, n.2, pp. 119-124. ISSN 1561-3119.
33 patients with thyroid affections, coming from the Children's Endocrinology Department of the "Juan Manuel Márquez" Pediatric Teaching Hospital, were studied during 1992-1993. 19 presented size II or III generalized diffuse goiter; 5, nodular goiter; 4, multinodular goiter; 3, lone nodules; and 2, thyroid gland cyst. All of them underwent fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FAB) of the thyroid. The conclusions reached were the following: FAB was useful for the diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, since it was detected in 16 patients (52 % of the series); it was also useful in 2 patients with cyst of the thyroid gland. The procedure was of use for detecting malignant thyroid lesions as of 7 patients with lone nodule or nodular goiter, 2 papillary carcinomas were detected (stage IV), one was considered as "suspicious" (stage III), corresponding to a colloid nodule, and the rest was reported as benign. On making these biopsies correspond with the postsurgical ones, a sensitivity of 100 % and a specificity of 80 % were attained.
