A prospective analytical cross-sectional study was made with the objective of setting likely differences in Beta-galactosidase performance in under 2 years-old children admitted with diarrheal disease due to Giardia lamblia to «Ángel A. Aballí» Teaching Pediatric Hospital’s Diarrhea Service Unit from December 1994 to November 1995. Levels of the enzime activity were determined according to the several characterization variable categories of the child and his disease. The outcome showed the decline in diarrheal disease in thesechildren and the different performance patterns of this enzime depending on age, nutrition and mucosa atrophic level.
