Abstract
MARTIN, Francisco Felipe et al. Estudio económico de la infección nosocomial en una unidad de cuidados intensivos pediátricos. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 2000, vol.72, n.1, pp. 21-26. ISSN 1561-3119.
A prospective-descriptive study was performed in those patients with acquired nosocomial infection in different hospital services, and because of its severity, was necessary its transfer to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Teaching Provincial Hospital of Sancti Spíritus province, for a period of 2 years. We assessed financial burden produced by this situation through different variables, such as, stage average was higher to that of admitted in ICU by other causes. We emphasize how drug costs were increased, which were lower to hemoderivatives and complementary ones. Total cost incured by these patients was of $30 392,60, accounted for 5,23 % of service costs otherwise enough to cover almost 40 days of work in ICU. Intrahospital infection, not only is a generally severe complication that threaten life of patient but also involve a further financial cost by a affection that can and must be avoided.
