A prospective, descriptive and cross-sectional study of the clinical aspects of patients diagnosed with sepsis and admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of "Orlando Pantoja Tamayo" General Teaching Hospital in Contramaestre, Santiago de Cuba province from 1998 to 2000 was carried out. The universe of study was made up of 90 patients and the most frequent age was over one year-old. Bacterial sepsis was highly incidental and the patients came from the Emergency Department. Length of stay at hospital increased with the advance of sepsis. The majority of children recovered from the disease.
