ZAYAS TORRIENTE, Georgina María et al. Obesidad en la infancia: Diagnóstico y tratamiento. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 2002, vol.74, n.3, pp. 233-239. ISSN 1561-3119.

The diagnosis and treatment of obesity in children and adolescents are dealt with in this paper, since obesity is considered as a reemerging affection in the infant population. It is estimated that approximately one third of all children are obese and that’s why its early diagnosis and timely treatment are so important. Besides, the significant increase of the environmental factors responsible for its determinisn, as well as the psychosocial and orthopedic problems and others of diverse nature accompanying it have arisen a lot of concern. Obesity is a risk factor associated with the genesis or development of non-communicable chronic diseases; therefore, it is necessary to improve the knowledge about its diagnosis and to institutionalize community programs for its treatment and prevention.
