Abstract

DE LA PARTE PEREZ, Lincoln. Reacciones adversas a la protamina en cirugía cardiovascular pediátrica. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 2003, vol.75, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3119.

After leaving the extracorporeal circulation, the anticoagulation produced by heparine is reverted by the administration of protamine. The administration of this drug is associated with a series of adverse reactions that may put in danger the patient's life. A retrospective study is conducted aimed at determining the incidences of these reactions in our environment. The following complications were found in the study: arterial hypotension (24 patients, 8 %), generalized rash (18 patients, 6 %) and bronchospasm (6 patients, 2 %). 48 patients presented adverse reactions attributable to protamine, accounting for 16 % of the total. No fatal complications were observed.

Keywords : PROTAMINES [administration & dosage]; PROTAMINES [adverse effects]; CARDIOVASCULAR SURGICAL PROCEDURES [adverse effects]; EXTRACORPOREAL CIRCULATION; INFANT; CHILD; HEPARIN ANTAGONISTS.
