Abstract
DELGADO DELGADO, Arturo L et al. Cirugía mayor electiva ambulatoria. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 2003, vol.75, n.4. ISSN 0034-7531.
Ambulatory major elective surgery has imposed itself in the world. This method began to be developed at the Pediatric Teaching Hospital of San Miguel del Padrón, in October, 1988, and it has been enriched and transformed since then. To know the results of this method, it was decided to study what was done with this type of procedure in 2000 and 2000. Different variables were also studied. A total of 1 335 ambulatory elective major operations were performed during these 2 years, accounting for 65 % of the total elective major surgery in 2000 and 60 % in 2001. There was a saving in the expenses by operation and an increase in the population's satisfaction as regards short-stay major surgery, which makes this method recommendable to be used in 60 % of the cases in all the pediatric hospitals with surgery service.
