Abstract
DURAN ALVAREZ, Sandalio; BETANCOURT GONZALEZ, Ubelsy and VAZQUEZ RIOS, Belkis. Multicystic renal dysplasia: conservative management. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 2004, vol.76, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3119.
From January 1 st , 1996 to December 31 st , 2003 , 120 children that were born during that period received attention at the nephrologist's office of “William Soler” Pediatric Teaching Hospital. Abnomalities or alterations of the urinary tract have been detected by maternofetal ultrasound. 7 of these children were diagnosed multicystic rernal displasia (MCRD), 4 by the prenatal study and 3 that were interpreted as severe hydronephrosis and after birth the diagnosis of displasia was confirmed. All the children were males, 6 had the classical form (hydronephrotic) of left multicystic renal displasia and one had solid multicystic displasia of the right side. Renal scintigraphy was peformed in all patients, in 4 static and in 3 dynamic due to the possibility of hydronephrosis. A conservative conduct with periodical ultrasonographic control was followed in all cases. Total involution of the cysts at 3, 5 and 72 months old was proved in 3 patients, a partial involution was observed in 2 at 35 and 40 months old, and no modifications of the size of the cysts were detected in 2 between 9 and 24 months old.
