Abstract

HERNANDEZ ALVAREZ, Dinorah; GONZALEZ LAVAUT, . José Antonio; PRIETO GONZALEZ, Silvia  and  TORRES LLACSA, Mabel. Carboprost methyl: Part I. Its pharmacological actions. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 1996, vol.22, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.

Carboprost is a prostaglandin of biological activity from 10 to 20 times superior to PGR2a . It is a potent stimulator of the contractile activity of the myometrium and induces cervical dilatation. Its use has been suggested since the 1970s, in spite of its side effects. The presence of a methyl group in the carbone 15 blocks the action of the 15-hydroxy-prostaglandin dehydrogenase enzyme, increasing the mean life time. This fact makes that the duration of the pharmacological action be 2 or 3 times higher than that developed by PGF2a .

Keywords : CARBOPROST [metabolism]; CARBOPROST [pharmacology]; CERVIX UTERI [drug effects].
