Abstract

DIAZ MARTINEZ, Ana Gloria; VALDES ABREU, Manuela de la C.  and  DALMAU DIAZ, Aníbal. The biopsy of chorionic villi as a prenatal diagnostic technique. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 1996, vol.22, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.

An updated review on the technique of chorionic villi biopsy is made based on the literature appearing in the MEDLINE, LILACS, and the Cuban Medical Literature data bases from 1989 to 1994. The historical aspects connected with this technique as well as the techniques related to its application are made known. It is reached the conclusion that in spite of the fact that it is an invasive technique of high cost and obstetric risk, it is useful for diagnosis congenital malformations and intrauterine infections causing serious damages to the fetus. This early diagnosis makes easy the therapeutical abortion, and reduces the obstetric risks of the pregnant woman.
