Abstract

LLORENTE ACEBO, Carmen et al. Evaluation of a latex reagent for the rapid diagnosis of Trichomonas vaginalis . Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2001, vol.27, n.2, pp. 114-119. ISSN 1561-3062.

A set of latex reagents produced by CENSA for the rapid diagnosis of Trichomona vaginalis was evaluated. 564 Pap smears were studied by latex agglutination test, direct microscopy of the vaginal sediment and its culture. Trichomoniasis was detected in 34 cases. 32 cases were diagnosed by culture, 31 by latex and 30 by direct examination. Sensitivity, specificity and coincidence (latex/culture) were 93.8; 99.8 and 99.5 %. In microscopy/culture they were 90.6; 99.8 and 99.3 %, respectively. As the technique proved to be simple, rapid and reproducible, its use was recommended in women’s primary care.
