Abstract

QUINONES CEBALLOS, Alfredo; MARTINEZ CORCHO, Manuel; MATIENZO CARVAJAL, Gema  and  PINA LOYOLA, Niurka. hydatiform mole: a study from 1994-1999 in the provincial gynecological and obstetric hospital in Cienfuegos. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2001, vol.27, n.3, pp.221-225. ISSN 0138-600X.

A research work was performed to delve into the anatomical and clinical characteristics and the biological behaviour of the pregnancy with hydatiform mole. Six years of work from 1994 in the gynecological and obstetric hospital in Cienfuegos were compiled. By the analysis of the medical records, the pregnancy with hydatiform mole were individualized. The studied variables were age of the patient, gestational age, symptoms at admission to the hospital, means of diagnosis, histological classification and progression of each case. These data were tabulated and analyzed using the percentage method. It was proved that the incidence of the trophoblastic disease was 1,4 per 1000 pregnancies; it was more common in young primigravida females who are frequently admitted to the emergency ward because of vaginal bleeding. Only 5,5% of these pregnancies developed aggressively and ended up in choriocarcinoma.
