Abstract

BALESTENA SANCHEZ, Jorge M; RODRIGUEZ, Ana  and  REGUERA CABRERA, Oscar. Epidemiological factors of the ectopic pregnancy. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2002, vol.28, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.

With the objective of evaluating some epidemiological factors of the ectopic pregnancy, a prospective longitudinal study of all the patients with this disease admitted to "Comandante Pinares" teaching hospital from 1998 to 1999 was conducted. 80 patients composed the study group whereas the control group was made up of 85 patients; both groups were randomly selected. The analyzed variables were: age, obstetric history, use and type of contraception, history of pelvic inflammatory disease and history and type of sexually transmitted disease. Percentage, mean, standard deviation and Z-score with a level of significance of p< 0,05 (significant) were used to analyzed data. 25-29 y age group was predominant for nulliparous women, for females using contraception and specifically for those who had intrauterine devices placed. Also significant were patients who presented with a pelvic inflammatory disease and history of sexually transmitted diseases, particularly those who suffered from trichomoniasis and syphilis. It was concluded that the above-mentioned factors were risk factors that lead to ectopic pregnancy.
