Abstract

SUAREZ GONZALEZ, Juan Antonio; GUTIERREZ MACHADO, Mario; ROSA HOWE, Renato  and  PENTON CORTES, Rogelio. Maternal and perinatal results of pregnancy in AIDS-patients. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2008, vol.34, n.2. ISSN 0138-600X.

OBJECTIVES: To determine the perinatal results in pregnancies in a group of gravid females with AIDS that in the studied period came to this Maternal Hospital to deliver their babies, to identify the main risk factors associated with these pregnancies, to find the diseases connected with gestation in these patients, to characterize the main perinatal results and to know the economic effect. METHODS: a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2004 to May 2007 in "Mariana Grajales" University Ginecoobstetric Hospital. 12 patients aged 20-34 with history of bronchial asthma, hepatitis, smoking habit and reactive serology were included. They have had previous gestations and induced abortions. RESULTS: Low birth weight was confirmed in 5 cases (mean= 2 450 g), as well as artificial lactation in all the live births. The cost of the attention to positive HIV patients was higher than that given to the rest of the pregnant women in the same period. Vaginal sepsis was present in every patient. CONCLUSIONS: The average time of positivity to HIV was 5 years. No alterations were observed in the gain of weight during pregnancy. Moniliasis was the main germ associated with vaginal sepsis. The attention to this specific group also requires an effort with economic impact.
