Abstract

FANO VIAMONTE, Roberto  and  LONGRES MANGUART, Aleida. Frequency of ABO and RH groups at a hemotherapy service in Havana city. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 1997, vol.26, n.1, pp.44-49. ISSN 0138-6557.

13 717 donors from the Hemotherapy Service of the "Dr. Luis Díaz Soto" Higher Institute of Military Medicine in Havana City were studied aimed at knowing the distribution and frequency of ABO and Rh groups, as a basis to conduct further studies. These indexes were compared with those of other provinces in order to determine similarities and differences. ABO distribution order was similar among the compared regions, but there was a significant difference (p < 0.05) among frequencies. The smallest differences were with Pinar del Río province, and the greatest with Baracoa municipality. This finding may be valuable for urgency situations due to natural disasters or war conflicts.

Keywords : ABO BLOOD-GROUP SYSTEM; RH-HR BLOOD-GROUP SYSTEM; BLOOD DONORS.
