Abstract
GONZALEZ RODRIGUEZ, Juan Francisco; MOLINA GALVEZ, Nancy; BARTHELEMY ARTZE, Deisy and BOLIVAR MURILLO, María Elena. Morphologic evaluation in professional divers and recommendation for standars. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 1998, vol.27, n.1, pp.13-17. ISSN 0138-6557.
An anthropometric study has been conducted at "Dr. Luis Díaz Soto" Higher Institute of Military Medicine since 1993 as a part of the Annual Medical Examination for the Health Control of the diving personnel. Since a Cuban standard is not available in the country in order to establish the morphologic parameters for evaluating this kind of specialist, the analysis of the above-mentioned examination was performed at the Center of Aviation and Subacuatic Medicine during 1993-1994, and this work completed with the creation of the current standars. Twelve anthropometric measures were taken into account, and 7 variables of body composition and 3 of somatotype were obtained. All variables were processed by the MICROSTAD system and after a validated statistical processing was performed according to the methodology used by professor O. Cubero, Military Medical Statistics. Havana City, "Dr. Luis Díaz Soto" Higher Institute of Military Medicine, 1993; 2:237, to determine the values of the standars reported here. Besides, it was concluded that the Cuban professional diver is as average, a 20 year old healthy mesoectomorphic adult with a height of 171.6 cm, a body weight of 64.3 kg and who has a percentage of body fat of 12.15 %.
