Abstract
GUERRERO ABREU, Jacqueline; PEREZ ALEJO, José L. and HERNANDEZ RODRIGUEZ, Héctor. Evaluation of the bioelectrical cerebral activity in a biological model of epilepsy. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 1998, vol.27, n.2, pp.101-105. ISSN 0138-6557.
It was reported that Mangolian gerbils is an excellent animal for experimental models of epilepsy due to its predisposition to audiogenic convulsive seizures. This paper was aimed at contributing to the characterization of the bioelectrical cerebral activity of these animals as an objective element for their classification. Depending on its sensicivity to the acoustic stimulus, it was possible to detect in a visual analysis of the electroencephalography 3 patterns of response according to its reactivity to the stimulus. The quantitative analysis of the electroencephalography showed 2 types of response whose characterization coincided with the behavioral classification into sensitive and resistants. The possibility to use these animals as biological models for the study of epilepsy and the trial of anticonvulsant and antiepileptic drugs was demonstrated.
