Abstract

MENDEZ GOMEZ, Neida et al. Experiences in the multidisciplinary care of male sexual dysfunction. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 1999, vol.28, n.2, pp. 102-107. ISSN 1561-3046.

To show the methodology used and the results obtained by the multidisciplinary Group of Sexology of the Higher Military Medicine Institute "Dr. Luis Díaz Soto" in the diagnosis and treatment of male sexual dysfunction, a study of 369 patients who attended the Sexology medical office from 1992 to 1995 was presented. 285 patients were classified as predominantly psychogenic and 84 as predominantly organic. The most frequent sexual dysfunction was the erectil dysfunction and the most affected age range was 36-55 years. The most common causes of sexual dysfunction were prolonged reactive syndrome, vascular disorders and endocrinopathies. Surgical treatment was applied to patients with both artery and vein disorders and the response was evaluated as positive in 28 of the 36 operated patients. The need of a multidisciplinary care for this disease according to its different causes was demonstrated.
