The importance of vascular trauma characterized by its severity rather than its frequency is stressed. Characteristics of vascular lesions caused by firearms or in a war conflict are presented. Present classifications and physiopathologies of trauma together with principles of initial and surgical treatment of this affection are set forth in this paper.
