Abstract

The case of a white female 15-year-old patient, whose clinical onset was suggestive of a cholestatic acute viral hepatitis was presented. During her evolution, it was observed a frank impairment of the hepatic function, with predominance of portal hypertension elements. She died as a result of a high digestive bleeding caused by esophageal varices. The postmortem study showed hepatic alterations consistent with hepatic cirrhosis due to a deficit of alpha 1-antitrypsine. The uncommon presentation of this entity, its extremely severe clinical evolution, and the clinical form in which it manifested, which made it indistinguishable from an acute viral hepatitis, were stressed
