Introduction:
The medical training process in Cuba has particular characteristics that make it different from other careers. It distinguishes insertion in the context of patient's primary assistance from the first year and throughout the career, where they are linked through a concept of education at work to medical care. The self-evaluation plays a main role to assure of the quality of the university careers, and the particularities of the training are essential for the self-evaluation to fulfil its purposes.
Objective:
To base the theoretical-methodological conception for the development of the self-evaluation in the university environment.
Methods:
Theoretical and empirical methods, were used to understand the essence of self-evaluation, and identify trends and regularities that characterize the emergence, evolution and development of this process.
Conclusions:
The principles enunciated were the combination of theory and practice with expression in the context of patient's primary assistance, the responsibility and commitment of the faculty, the directionality of the methodological work and the systematicity. These aspects constitute bases, guidelines and rules, which support the conception of the development of the self-evaluation, in order to improve the process and bring it closer to the reality and characteristics of the career.
