Abstract

CORREA MAUTZ, Felipe. Growth Diagnostic: Constraints for Growth in Cuba in the 21st Century. Econ. y Desarrollo [online]. 2014, vol.151, n.1, pp.136-148. ISSN ISSN.

A growth diagnostic was performed in Cuba, following the methodology suggested by Hausmann, Rodrik and Velasco, modified to adapt itself to the economic and statistical framework of the country. A much more analytical and interpretative approach of the economic features was followed in identifying the most important bindings for the economic growth, carried out based on data and available literature regarding economic growth and development in Cuba. In the present scenario, the main active bindings for Cuba can be found in the elevated cost and lack of financial availability, and, secondly, in the low appropriation caused by the failure of institutionalization, which takes into account the role of the market, and the relation between the State and the private sector.

Keywords : economic growth; economic development; Cuban economy.
