Abstract

Ad the evolution of tourism in Cuba, as well as their competitiveness can be analyzed through the study of three basic stages: before the Revolution, the decade of the 90s and today. In the first stage, in general, favorable behaviors are observed, however, had a high dependence on the US market and tourism focused his attraction to gambling and other vices. Then in the second stage, a steady uptrend in tourist arrivals to the island, and positive governmental action that allowed the comparative advantages and make them based on healthy economic growth in activity is observed. Finally, in a third step some factors that prevent tourism in Cuba to advance the creation of competitive, essential in today's global environment benefits stand out.
