Abstract

GARCIA, L. Enrique. Comparative Advantages and Challenges of Development Regional Banks: the CAF Experienc. Econ. y Desarrollo [online]. 2016, vol.156, n.1, pp. 6-19. ISSN 0252-8584.

The development multilateral banks have traditionally been important, not only because of its anti-cyclic and catalyzing functions, most of all in times of crisis, but also as a tool to support the development process. CAF, Latin American Bank of Development, is a regional financial institution with a very interesting background to be analyzed. The main reasons to explain such competitive advantages can be summarized as proximity of its clients and a wide knowledge and familiarization with the region's idiosyncrasy. None the less, its success depends, to a great extent, on the its ability to articulate a vision of the development, to define a clear mission, and to be able to get a strong and effective participation of the member countries, as well as the fact of having the ability to mobilize external resources based on its administrative and financial performance, as well as on its institutional strength.

Keywords : Latin America; development multilateral banks; development.
