Abstract

HIDALGO GALLO, Rosibel. Trends in International Trade of Goods, Trade Policies and Multilateral Negotiations. Econ. y Desarrollo [online]. 2018, vol.159, n.1, pp. 135-153. ISSN 0252-8584.

The main trends of international trade of goods are identified in this paper, as well as the most relevant characteristics of Trade Policies, besides the current situation of multilateral trade negotiations in the World Trade Organization. Delay of the relation between world trade and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), prominence of world value chains, concentration of geographic orientation and commercial composition, instability of the prices of basic products and a higher digital component of goods interchanged internationally, are some of the trends that excel. Protectionist trade policies have been expanded with non-tariff measures prevailing against tariffs, especially sanitary and phytosanitary measures, as well as technical obstacles against trade. Multilateral system is weakened and there are doubts concerning its ability to face successfully current challenges of the international trade relations.

Keywords : tariff; value chains; exports; imports; non - tariff; world trade organization.
