Abstract

ZALDIVAR PUIG, Martha; MAYOR MAGDALENA, Ariam Luis  and  MARTINEZ GRENIER, Annie. An Entrepreneurship Ecosystem and Small Businesses in Old Havana. Econ. y Desarrollo [online]. 2019, vol.161, n.1 ISSN 0252-8584.

Old Havana is considered to be a municipality where small businesses (self-employment) were started first. These businesses’ growth is influenced by features inherent in the entrepreneurship ecosystem where these economic activities are carried out. The Office of the Havana City Historian as an institution governing the local development has encouraged self-employment there, by creating a climate favorable to this. A study of these businesses’ growth was conducted, which was four-fold - legal and regulatory framework, financial network, framework for entrepreneurship education, and potential alliances. It allowed factors boosting or hindering small businesses’ growth in this municipality to be determined. The results obtained are for the period 2014-2016.

Keywords : potential alliances; entrepreneurship ecosystem; sources of finance; Office of the City Historian; self-employment.
