Abstract

ACOSTA CHAVEZ, Delia  and  CRUZ REYES, Jesús. Small Farmers’ Presence and Place in Today’s Ecuador. Econ. y Desarrollo [online]. 2019, vol.162, n.2, e4.  Epub Aug 08, 2019. ISSN ISSN.

This work is aimed at examining Marx’s conceptions of the capitalist relations in agriculture, with emphasis on small farmers’ place therein. Such conceptions are considered to be theories and methodologies essential to the study of agrarian relations, in general, and in Ecuador, in particular. In Ecuador, there are a large number of small farmers who live in a state of social exclusion and poverty. At the same time, however, there are agribusinesses which represent the most advanced stage of transnational financial capital in today’s capitalist agriculture.

Keywords : Marxism; agriculture; capitalist relations in agriculture; agribusinesses; small farmers; Ecuador.
