Abstract

DIAZ FARINAS, Lázaro  and  DIAZ PEREZ, Daniela. Food Production Deficit in Cuba or the Diatribe between Agricultural Development and Rural Development?. Econ. y Desarrollo [online]. 2022, vol.166, n.1  Epub Jan 01, 2022. ISSN 0252-8584.

The agricultural issue is once again relevant in Cuba due to the deficit in food production that has been sustained for years. This worldwide phenomenon constitutes a challenge for development in countries with agricultural traditions and high levels of poverty, such as those in Latin America. Our nation has margins of relative poverty, especially in rural areas. The inequality gap between rural and urban areas has increased. At the same time, the recipients of agricultural production do not see their consumption needs met and social problems are worsening. The study of agricultural development in close relation to rural development is a major academic and political task. This article reflects on some socioeconomic contradictions that must be addressed from a critical perspective in order to solve them.

Keywords : agriculture; contradictions; development; politic.
