Abstract

GOMEZ, D; SOSA, I  and  GOMEZ, E. EFFECTIVENESS OF A SULPHADIMIDINE, TRIMETROPRIM AND ATROPINE SULFATE (HEFROTRIM 120) COMBINATION AGAINST GIARDIASIS IN DOGS. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2009, vol.31, n.1, pp.34-39. ISSN 0253-570X.

The objective of this work was to determine the effectiveness of the sulphadimidine, trimetroprim and sulfate of atropine (Hefrotrim 120) combination in three different dosage levels for the treatment of the natural Giardia spp. infection in canine. It was demonstrated that Hefrotrim 120 at a dose of 1. 5 ml/kg live weight and 3ml/kg live weight reduces the elimination of Giardia spp. cysts in affected dogs, as well as the presentation of diarrheas in the treated animals. There were not significant differences with metronidazol concerning the elimination of cysts and the haematological parameter was not modified in dogs affected by Giardia spp. besides it did not produce any toxic or undesirable effects.

Keywords : Giardia spp; Hefrotim 120.
