Abstract

GONZALEZ-CHAVEZ, Michel Torres. Report of a clinical case: renal abscess with total loss of parenchyma in a canine. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2017, vol.39, n.3, pp. 00-00. ISSN 2224-4700.

Renal abscesses, known as renal anthrax, are rare and formed by the coalescence of multiple microabscesses. To correct this pathological entity, the surgical treatment is the one of choice. In this work, a case of renal abscess in a two-year old female canine, with extreme cachexia, is described. An exploratory laparotomy, revealing the giant mass that had been detected by the physical examination and that turned out to be an abscess of the left kidney, was performed. The total nephrectomy was the surgical solution used. The animal died 12 hours after surgery, despite the postoperative measures

Keywords : renal abscess; laparotomy; total nephrectomy.
