Abstract

OJITO-RAMOS, Katia; CASTANEDA BAUTA, Rut; PORTAL, Orelvis  and  ESPINOSA RUIZ, Ray. In vitro antifungal activity of plant extracts against tomato and common bean phytopathogenic fungi. Ctro. Agr. [online]. 2020, vol.47, suppl.1, pp. 49-53.  Epub Dec 17, 2020. ISSN 0253-5785.

Plants are considered an important source of secondary metabolites with antifungal activity. The objective of this research was to determine the in vitro antifungal activity of extracts of leaves of the Rutacea and Phytolacaceae family. Hydroalcoholic extracts and essential oils were obtained, they were characterized phytochemically and the concentration of total phenols was determined. The minimum inhibitory concentration, the percentage of inhibition of mycelial growth and of the germination of conidia was determined to Passalora fulva, Alternaria solani, Stemphyllium solani, Rhizoctonia solani and Sclerotium rolfsii. Amines, amino acids, phenols and tannins, and flavonoids were identified in all the extracts, and sesquiterpenes in the essential oil. All the extracts showed minimal inhibitory concentrations, ability to inhibit mycelial growth and germination of conidia, with specificity against each fungus. The present study demonstrated the potential of using the extracts as antifungals for the agroecological management of these pathogens.

Keywords : Phaseolus vulgaris; Phytolacaceae; Rutacea; Solanum lycopersicum.
