Abstract
DOMINGUEZ LOPEZ, Ernesto. Realignment Theory and Changes in the American Political System. UH [online]. 2017, n.284, pp. 84-105. ISSN 0253-9276.
Realignment theory describes and explains dramatic changes in the American political system, mainly regarding American national elections. Scholars, who are generally credited with developing and refining this theory, have, however, different points of view about political processes, separate politics from social reality, and try to find systematic patterns to make accurate predictions about election results. Starting by examining these scholars' works, a new realignment theory is formulated, revising its central postulates, such as the ones regarding elections.
