Abstract

SALINAS LOPEZ, José M.. The Dynamics of Political Parties in Latin America until the Beginning of the 21st Century: Some Aspects to Be Taken into Consideration when Examining this Process. UH [online]. 2017, n.284, pp.160-176. ISSN 0253-9276.

This paper presents some aspects which are fundamental to understanding evolution processes of political parties in Latin America, and gives a better insight into actors in political systems of the region. The study of Latin American political parties, their origins, and a model for their periodization, carried out by the Spanish professor Manuel Alcántara Sáez, was taken as point of reference. Degree of party institutionalization, weakening of two-party system, and transformation of traditional parties into different political parties are also examined.
