Abstract

BOSQUE, Ignacio. How is language currently taught, and how should it be?. UH [online]. 2018, n.285, pp.8-24. ISSN 0253-9276.

In this paper, some negative consequences of taking grrammatical units as mere labeling resources in high school language courses are examined. A number of suggestions aimed at overcoming this narrow conception are presented, including some attitudes and strategies already common in the teaching of scientific subjects: as formulating and comparing hypotheses and generalizations, exploring the relationship between cause and effect, performing experiments, detecting inadequacies or overlaps between analyses, and enhancing students' critical and analytical thinking skills. Some contemporary didactic proposals on language teaching in high school are challenged at the end of the paper.

Keywords : Didactics; Grammar; Linguistic Units.
