Abstract

DOMINGUEZ GUADARRAMA, Ricardo. Unity and Integration in Latin America and the Caribbean: Challenges to Mexico. UH [online]. 2018, n.285, pp.262-275. ISSN 0253-9276.

In this paper, some historical events occurring in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s of the 20th century were analyzed in order to determine factors in the Latin American integration process in the 21st century. Mechanisms for achieving economic and political unity proposed by Latin American and Caribbean countries, and the ones proposed by the United States are closely examined, as well as their terms and consequences for the region. This academic examination of such a political and economic scene also questions the stance taken by Mexico on every integration process, and the relation of this country with the region.

Keywords : Latin America; Integration Processes; Stance of the United States vs. Latin American and Caribbean Integration; Mechanisms for Achieving Economic and Political Unity.
