Abstract

RAFULS PINEDA, Daniel. Words to Intellectuals, Beyond a Historical Moment. UH [online]. 2022, n.293  Epub Mar 03, 2022. ISSN 0253-9276.

The work returns to the well-known speech of Fidel Castro Ruz, Words to the intellectuals, pronounced in June 1961. Its context is recalled and some of the most important aspects are highlighted. The text conceptually reaffirms the freedom of the artist to create his own work according to the aesthetic tendency of his taste and the freedom of the national government to have a highly qualified professional body that facilitates the discernment of what is useful and opportune for the Revolution from the artistic point of view. The proposal also recalls Che and his perception of the complexities of freedom of creation by artists and writers under the conditions of capitalism and socialism.

Keywords : culture; polemics; revolution.
