Abstract

This Taking into account the organizational philosophy, the identity and the values as reference, the work attempts to make an approach to the concept of university social responsibility (USR). Moreover, the present document establishes a relation between URS´s main indicators and some essential attributes of the organizational culture. The terms management, socio-cultural and community are conceptualized; the role of the university in the scientific and humanistic formation of the professional who should be able to design socio-cultural and community strategies, is highlighted. UNESCO´s definitions in terms of the university and its functions are taken as reference. The historic evaluation of the social sciences is briefly presented and finally, the concept of patrimony as a cultural expression and of identities is characterized, and several cultural and community management strategies are of the Office of the Historian of Havana -the institution to which the Colegio Universitario San Gerónimo de La Habana belongs to- are referred to.
