Abstract

ISSN 0258-5936.

Potato botanical seed was sown under semicontrolled conditions over the years 2004-2005, 2005-2006 and 2006-2007, with the objective of analyzing the behaviour and external quality of tubers from eight crosses or hybrid combinations. Sowings were performed in the first week of December. Thus, 300 seedlings were selected to be transplanted to more technical beds inside a greenhouse; they were transplanted after 25 days using a randomized block design with three replicates. Progenies from true potato seed during the years tested showed a differential behaviour. The Cuban progeny Atlantic x Aninca reached the highest tuber number and weight (346.1 tubers and 3.7 kg/m2); besides, its skin color and tuber shape (degrees 9 and 8 respectively) recorded the greatest uniformity. The botanical seed from the Cuban progeny Atlantic x Aninca constitutes a sowing alternative for producing potato, considering its yield and uniformity. It is recommended to obtain botanical seed from this Cuban progeny on a business scale as well as to conduct zonal ecological studies.

Keywords : potatoes; Solanum tuberosum; seed; progeny; agronomic characters.
