Abstract
CASTRO, R et al. Efecto de la incorporación del abono verde Azolla sp. en la reducción de LOS DAÑOS causadOs por fitonematodos en cultivos de organopónicos. cultrop [online]. 2009, vol.30, n.3, pp.10-13. ISSN 0258-5936.
Substrate quality in organoponics constitutes a vitally-important aspect, since they eventually lose nutrient richness and are prone to be infected by parasitic nematodes, causing a considerable yield and crop quality decrement. This investigation was carried out with the objective of determining the effect of incorporating Azolla sp. on gill-producing nematode populations and damages provoked, as well as on yield of different crops in INRE organoponics, Los Palacios, Pinar del Río. For three consecutive years, highly degree infected beds with gill-producing parasitic nematodes from Meloidogyne sp. were studied, in which Azolla sp. was incorporated as green manure at the rate of 2 kg.m-2. Results showed that Azolla sp. fern reduced parasitic nematode damages significantly and increased crop yields in cucumber, beet, carrot, tomato, chard and lettuce. Concerning lettuce, root gills proved to be significantly reduced during two consecutive harvests.
