Abstract

HERNANDEZ, A  and  MORENO, Irene. CHARACTERISTICS AND CLASSIFICATION OF SOILS rice cultivation in LA PALMA, Pinar del Rio. cultrop [online]. 2010, vol.31, n.2, pp. 00-00. ISSN 0258-5936.

The morphological, physicochemical and fertility characteristics of six soil profiles from La Palma, Pinar del Rio, cultivated with rice are studied in this paper. Soils proved to be affected by gleyzation process and have an unfavorable A horizon structure. At the same time, as a result of rice growth, there is an anthropic horizon named hydragric in two of these profiles. Besides, the six soil profiles are classified by Cuban system, as well as those of World Reference Base and Soil Taxonomy. The two first soil classifications were correctly applied; however, Soil Taxonomy could not be applied to soils having an anthropic horizon

Keywords : soil morphological features; soil classification; soil chemicophysical properties; soil fertility.
